As a result of the recent high rainfalls and subsequent flooding Melbourne Water is working with emergency services and other relevant agencies to review the impacts to our waterways and assets.

You can access current emergency information by calling the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226 or sign up to receive regular updates regarding flooding via the emergency.vic.gov.au website and app.

Where Melbourne Water is the relevant Referral Authority, as part of an application to amend planning scheme information, overlays or a change the zoning of a parcel of land, you will require our consent.

Applications must include:

  • council cover letter including scheme amendment changes with maps

  • applicant cover letter (if submitted)

  • detailed development plans, including site plan and elevation plans

Approval process

We review applications received from councils and respond to the proposed changes.

We will respond with our:

  • consent

  • consent with conditions

  • objection


The process takes 28 calendar days to assess your application and respond.

Incomplete applications may be delayed or returned requesting additional information.
