Public Forum on Family Violence: an issue for everyone. Sunday 21st August, 4pm in Burns Hall, First Church of Otago. Prof David Toombs and Dr Mercy Ah Siu-Maliko. This forum will explore the issue of family violence in countries around the world, including NZ, and will discuss the challenges that family violence raises for Christian faith and church ministry. At 5pm will be the launch of “Christian Faith and Family Violence: A Report for Samoan Communities in New Zealand.” This is a new web-based resource on family violence written by Dr Mercy Ah Siu-Maliko for the Centre for Theology and Public Issues. Dunedin Presbyterial Region: The AGM of the Dunedin Presbyterial Region of the PWANZ will be held in the McLean Room, First Church of Otago, at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 23 August 2016. An invitation is extended to all interested to attend this meeting.  Rev Anne Thomson will be our Guest Speaker.  It will be a great time for members and friends from our parishes to join together in fellowship.

 

Volunteers wanted for General Assembly (14 – 20 November): The Presbyterian Church will hold its General Assembly in Dunedin in November and is looking for volunteers to assist in the following roles:

  • Ushers (who will assist with the operations of the Assembly sessions) – full training will be given
  • Guides around university, particularly Tuesday, Wednesday – full training will be given
  • Help with administration
  • Volunteer drivers for Vans

Community Cuppa and Conversation: You are invited meet with other members of the Green Island community for a cuppa this Wednesday, 10th August, 10am in Civic Hall, Green Island. There will also be the opportunity to talk to the Greater Green Island Community worker, Members of the Saddle Hill Community Board and a representative from Neighbourhood Support. Wanted: Ice-cream containers for soup. If you have spare containers, they would be very useful for those people making soup to use. Please bring to the office or to church on a Sunday.

 

Tax Rebates: You may not realise that if you make donations to charitable organisations in NZ, you are eligible to claim back 33.3% of those donations on production of tax receipts. We encourage all who make donations to the church to do so either through the envelope system or by automatic payment, so that we can provide you with a tax receipt.

You can then enhance your regular donation to the church by also donating your 33.3% rebate back to the church.
