Parish Fair: our annual fair will be held at Caversham on Saturday 25th March. This will have an Easter Theme and we invite your help now ……

  • If you are able to assist on the day, please indicate this by signing the list available today or in the parish office during the week.
  • We need items for a grocery hamper raffle prize – these can be brought to church or the office
  • Bring in your unwanted yet saleable goods – white elephant, elegant junk, toys, puzzles, books, good used clothing – please bring to the church office during office hours, or phone the office to arrange collection
  • Pot up plants for selling; make jams and preserves for selling

 

Moderator’s Earthquake appeal: The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church has launched an appeal inviting congregations to contribute to a fund in support of the people affected by the earthquakes in the top of the South Island. You are invited to donate to this appeal and a retiring offering will be received at services on Sunday 26th February.

 

Hospital Chaplaincy Street Day Collection: will be held on Thursday 2nd March. Over a number of years Pete has coordinated a willing band of helpers from Coastal Unity who collect at two sites – Countdown in Anderson’s Bay Road and Fresh Choice in Green Island. Bed-pushing at Hospital: Coastal Unity is rostered to assist with moving patients to the hospital chapel service on Sunday 5th March. If you are able to help with this please phone Sue on 487 7899.

 

Harvest Thanksgiving Services will be held in the parish on Sunday 5th March. Please bring along fresh produce and other food items to services that day; these will be taken to the Presbyterian Support Foodbank.

 

The Caversham Fruit & Vege Depot is operating in Dutton Lounge again on Thursdays, 10 - 11am and also from 5 – 5.45pm.

 

Lunch@Sidey: all welcome to come along for a free lunch in Sidey Hall on Thursdays at 11.30am.

 

World Vision Child sponsorship – A REMINDER….. If you have your name on the list to support this project, we welcome your annual $20 donation; the new donor year began on 1st August. Anyone else interested in contributing to our sponsored child in India is welcome to write their name on the list and make a donation – either pop it in the box on the back table of the Caversham Church or place in a labelled envelope and put in the Sunday offering plate/bag. Thank you to those who have already made their donation.

 

Stamps: We are happy to receive your used postage stamps, which we pass on to Presbyterial to raise money for mission projects. These can be left at either church or brought to the office. Don’t clean them, but they can be trimmed (if you wish) leaving a good margin around the stamp.

 

Tuesday lunchtime worship will begin again on Tuesday 7 February, 12.15-12.45pm at First Church, and will be held every week until the end of the year. This is open to all, and provides a space of quiet in the heart of the city and an oasis during the week to be still and worship.

The purpose of these meetings is to receive a nomination of an additional member to the Session, with the resolve that, if elected, a service of Induction would take place on Sunday 5th February at Caversham during morning worship.

Wednesday 18th Jan: Visit to Taieri Historical Society Park, Outram – meet at 1.30pm. $6 entry; bring money for real fruit ice-cream.

Thursday 26th January: pot luck lunch at Elizabeth’s house. Meet at 12 noon for 12.30 lunch. Bring a plate of food to share. An afternoon of fun!

Lunch@Sidey has changed format during the holidays – on Thursdays through to 26th January you are invited to come along between 11.30 and 12.30 but please bring your own packed lunch and there will be garden classes, even on rainy days.

Security: As a number of items have gone missing from the Sidey Hall kitchen in recent weeks we are asking those on morning tea to lock the hall after preparing the morning tea on a Sunday so it is secure when there is no one in the hall while we are in the church. If you need to get into the hall for any reason during worship, please ask someone on door duty for a key.
