You can access current emergency information by calling the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226 or sign up to receive regular updates regarding flooding via the emergency.vic.gov.au website and app.

How to apply

Liveable Communities, Liveable Waterways makes it easier for you to partner with Melbourne Water because you can apply for an incentive at any time during the year.

You can now submit your Liveable Communities, Liveable Waterways application online through our Incentives System which is quick and easy to use. This has replaced Smarty Grants and any forms from our previous grant programs. All customers can apply through this system.

The first time you access the Incentives System you will need to register. A recent security update means you may also need to reset your password the first time you log in.

If you would like a team member to help you with your application, please call our Customer Service Centre on 131 722 or email: [email protected]

Before you complete your online application, please make sure you have reviewed the eligibility criteria in our Program guidelines. We recommend you speak to a Melbourne Water representative to discuss your idea before starting your application

When will you know if your application is successful?

The average time to notify you on the outcome of your application is about 12 weeks.

The time we need to assess your application will depend on the level of complexity, whether we need to do a site visit and any internal referrals required within Melbourne Water.

Funding agreement and payment

If your application is approved for funding, Melbourne Water will contact you in writing and invite you to enter into an agreement for the project. At that time, you may accept and return the signed agreement by the given deadline or decline the funding by notifying Melbourne Water. The agreement will include an attachment detailing:

  1. the terms and conditions of funding
  2. the details of the activity
  3. the deliverables
  4. acquittal, evaluation and reporting requirements
  5. the schedule of payments.

It is important that you return your agreement by the due date, or your funding offer may lapse.

For payment of your funding, you will receive an email notification asking you to provide or update your contact details and nominate a bank account through the Zycus Supplier Network (ZSN) Portal.

If your application is unsuccessful, Melbourne Water will let you know in writing. We encourage you to contact us to find out more about why your application was unsuccessful by calling 131 722.
